Sydney's Final Diagnosis

I took Sydney to her Neurologist yesterday to follow up after the EEG and we were finally able to get an official diagnosis, epilepsy. I know this isn't really a surprise to any of us, but, it was good to finally have a diagnosis so that I could research more and get a few more answers. Sydney does not fit any known syndromes since she is so young, but the Dr. did said that that could change as she ages and her brain develops. As for right now, she is on trileptal and B6 two times a day, and that is stopping the seizures. Luckily, the Dr. said that she is on a very low dose for her weight, and it won't need to be upped unless she has more seizures. Lets hope she doesn't need that. For now we just have checkups every 3 months to make sure she is developing right, and we hope that in a year or two we can try and get off these meds. The Dr. did say there was a chance that this could be outgrown but also that these things can show up later in life on EEGs and such. Urgh! Only time will tell. Here is a website that talks more about it http://www.epilepsyfoundation.org/infants/outcome.html

Ooh and I almost forgot, Sydney took her first step in the Doctors office! WOOHOO! She should be walking by the end of April! I can't wait!

I am so glad there is a possiblity she'll outgrow it. It is also a blessing that she is on a relatively low dosage for her weight! About the walking..her are your instructions: you may encourage her to walk--but not too much. I want to be there during the wobbly stage!!! ;o)
